Hehe, I just happened to be at my computer and noticed you checking out the demo while keeping an eye on my web logs. So it was a bit of a fluke. :P
: Demo Reza 2012-09-13 10:57
so it seems that I'm lucky , thanks anyway ;)
: Demo John Elliot 2012-09-13 10:59
No worries. Good luck working through the demo. If you have any questions I'd be happy to answer them. If you leave a comment anywhere on this site I'll probably eventually find it and answer it, but if you want fast answers you can email me at jj5@progclub.org.

maybe it's an ipad thing, but it would be handy if the demo and the instuctions scrolled seperately. Also, the comment editor widget thing does woeird things on the ipad...
: Demo John Elliot 2012-08-09 12:38
Sorry mate, I don't think this site is iPad/iPhone friendly. Not sure what to do about that wrt the demo frame. Not sure what to do about the HTML comments editor either. Suggestions?
: Demo John Elliot 2012-08-19 05:06
I looked up what to do about the HTML comment editor and the advice was to replace it with a plain textarea when loading a page for the iPad. So I'd need some code that detected an iPad on the server side and then need to generate slightly different HTML that didn't load the YUI HTML Editor. I'll put that on the TODO list.

Hello. This is a kool site.
: Demo John Marshall 2012-07-08 22:54

This looks like what I have been looking for.  As a relatively new beginner in writing computer code I have been looking for alternative ways to educate myself in javascript, html, and css to help me with creating and working with web based natural resource management tools.  I have recently started creating and have posted a web page on the internet:

It is intended to be a work in progress and is basically now my primary work space to use trial and error to learn this "code stuff."  Today I am specifically looking for directions on how to assign a data type (currency) to one of my javascript based arithmetic outcomes.  I am currently writing all my code in Notepad ++ and uploading the html, css, and occasional jpg to my IPS via FileZilla.

Hi John,

Welcome to jsphp.co! If you're looking for help learning about JavaScript try heading over to ProgClub and registering there. ProgClub runs forums (mailing lists) where you can ask your JavaScript/HTML/CSS questions and we'd be happy to help you.

The focus at jsphp.co is the PHP API library and you could help out with that and learn a thing or two about software development and JavaScript by hacking on some unit tests for us.

Good luck with your journey into software development.

John Elliot.

used the math.max() method with two arguments.Write a program that asks the user for sales amounts, sends all three as argments to Math.max(), and displays the result. Does the Math.max() method can accept three arhuments.

Using javascript, write a prpgram to find the maximum of three sales amount by testing
whether the Math.max() method can accept three arguments.

Hi. I'm just starting the demo.

I'll report back when I finish the demo so we can know how long it takes.

OK. I'm done. I started at 11:33 and finished at 11:55, which is 22 minutes later. So the demo takes about 20 minutes to work through.
: base64_encode version 460 John Elliot 2011-12-27 17:08
This function is a bit of a trick. The upstream developers at phpjs.org put in utf-8 encoding and decoding into the function. This is necessary to get the expected behaviour using JavaScript strings instead of PHP strings.

In PHP if you run

  strlen( '漢字仮名交じり文' )
You get 24. In JavaScript if you call

You get 8. The difference is in how the string is represented in memory. PHP uses binary strings, whereas it seems JavaScript is using a UTF-16 (or higher) representation. This means when you call charCodeAt in JavaScript you might get a value greater than 255.

Anyway, the UTF-8 encoding and decoding by the base64_* functions was creating a problem for me, because sometimes you're already dealing with a 'binary string' in JavaScript, which means the string shouldn't be UTF-8 encoded before base64 coding. So I've moved out the utf8 encoding, and if you want or need utf8 encoding you should do it yourself before passing a value to the base64_encode function.
: array version 178 John Elliot 2011-12-26 03:17
I've setup some tests and benchmarks for this function. The dependencies for this function have also been properly specified. There's a lot of work to do to create tests, benchmarks and dependencies for all the other functions. If you're looking to try out the unit tests or benchmark facilities it's best to use this array function as your subject for now.

It will take me a little while to load all the contributor information into the database, so this section will be out-of-date until that's finished.
: Contributors John Elliot 2011-12-22 05:49
The data load is now mostly complete, give or take one or two erroneous records.

ProgClub is a club for computer programmers, and we created the www.jsphp.com website. Come hang out with us if you'd like. :)

phpjs.org is the upstream source for the JsPHP JavaScript library that provides the PHP API.

Blackbrick is an Australian technology company that graciously pays to host www.jsphp.com. If you're looking to employ expert JavaScript programmers to help you with your project feel free to get in contact with Blackbrick who may be able to help you out.
